Casa del Rego
A large manor house located on a small plain, near the Suarón River, enclosed by a stone wall about two and a half metres high. Within its walls there is still a beautiful octagonal dovecote. It has a kind of small attic on its roof, which makes it unique and was probably used as an outlet for the fumes from the "la reira" - the earthly kitchen - and some light to the attic.
The first mayor of Vega de Ribadeo, today Vegadeo, was born in this house. It was the birthplace of illustrious surnames, such as those of Cancio and the Saavedra family, Don Lebún and Miranda Osorio and La Vega, illustrious people who were born here, lived and died here, examples of whom are D.José Saavedra Pardo, one of the organisers of the guerrillas against the "French conquest", several times a member of the Cortes, co-founder of the paper factory of La Requejada and the tannery of Piantón, and also the lawyer Carlos Saavedra, Mayor and Justice of the then - 1766 - extensive Council of Castropol. Later, perhaps already entwined with the Saavedra family, lived the Cuervo Castrillón family, who were also lawyers and members of the Cortes.
There is no certainty as to the century in which this mansion was built, although it probably dates from the second third of the 17th century, given the people who lived there, who are already listed in the 1680 Padrones de Nobles of Piantón with the Cancio family, of the Palacio de Meredo.
