Palacete Peñalba or Chalet of Doña Socorro
The mansion went through several years of semi-abandonment until 1981, when it was acquired by its current owner, who transformed it into a hotel .
The main building is rectangular in plan and has circular turrets on three of its corners, one of which culminates in an elegant dome. Three of its façades open onto large terraces and belvederes, articulated by parabolic and hyperbolic arches. The decoration, inspired by plants and with sinuous, intertwining forms, is mainly concentrated around the openings and, especially, in the elaborate portal-terrace of the main façade.
The interior is organised around a central courtyard with a large glass roof. The abundant floral ornamentation, the stained glass windows, the original woodwork and the period floors, as well as a luminous gallery, all stand out. During its refurbishment, both the decoration and the architect's original intention of creating large, flowing spaces in all the rooms were respected. The ground floor houses the reading room, the main lounge and a terrace.
The magnificent 18,000 m² English-style gardens, designed by the gardener of the Royal Household, are completed by majestic century-old trees.
