Oscos-eo Destinations
Ruta del Estraperlo SL-AS 21
The route begins in Louteiro, which is reached after taking a turning to the left shortly before the Vegadeo exit in the direction of Galicia. From the chapel of this village begins the route once used by pilgrims on pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela and smugglers, who, avoiding the main roads, passed products from Galicia to Asturias.
This is a route that runs along the banks of the river Eo, along which we can contemplate the fauna and flora of its estuary. In Abres there are still wharfs that were witnesses to the seafaring vitality of the estuary in times gone by. From the top of the loama, the Palacio del Pividal, an excellent example of local baroque built in 1674, watches over the village and contemplates the passage of the Eo.
Leaving Abres we begin a short ascent, passing through Grandamiá until we reach Sela de Murias, where we can visit the ruins of an old inn used as a resting and provisioning place by pilgrims and muleteers, who, accompanied by their packs of pack animals or ox carts, transported all kinds of goods.
In its final stretch to Louteiro, the route is immersed in a thick forest where we can find oaks, chestnut trees, eucalyptus,... accompanied by abundant herbaceous and shrubby vegetation that covers the ground like a mosaic showing many shades of green.
