Church of St James of Abres
The parish church, dedicated to the Apostle St. James, has a portico paved with large slate slabs and two arches that open to the outside. With three naves, its altarpieces show how the local nobility understood and captured the aesthetic sense of the Baroque. This 15th century temple underwent alterations in the 16th and 18th centuries. It preserves several altarpieces from the same period as the building, as well as two images of Saint James, knight and pilgrim.
It is a magnificent example of the passage of the Pilgrim's Way of St. James through Santiago de Abres, where there was a pilgrims' hospital and, in 1783, it was granted in perpetuity, under the papacy of Pius VI, the privilege of granting "plenary indulgence and remission of all sins to each and every one of Christ's faithful, of either sex , truly repentant, of either sex, truly repentant and confessed, comforted in Holy Communion, who devoutly visit the parish church of Santiago Apóstol de Abres, Diocese of Oviedo, on the same day of the feast, from first vespers until sunset of the same day, (...)"...)"
