Eiroá Route PR-AS 19

Discover the magic of Taramundi walking through forests, mountains and villages with history.

The route starts in Taramundi, next to the Rectoral, along a path that climbs northwards, crossing a wooded area with pines and eucalyptus interspersed with oaks and chestnut trees. During the ascent there are excellent views of the villages of Llan and Valín on the opposite slope, and of the valleys formed by the rivers Cabreira and Turia. The path climbs up through an area known as El Zarradón, where there are some grassland enclaves in a forest area; from this point we can see the mountains that are free. The path continues along a hill, bordering a pasture. From this area the panoramic views belong to the border with San Tirso de Abres and Galicia (the Eo estuary), until we reach the Abraído track.

Surrounding Taramundi are: Pico do Pendón (700 m) to the north, Busnovo (660 m) to the east and El Carranco (724 m) to the south, until reaching the top of the mountain range known as Chao do Marco. The Chao is a large flat area with meadows, where Scots pine abounds, but most of the area is occupied by large heaths. Horses and cows can be seen grazing in this area.

On reaching the top of the sierra, we continue along a track on the right that leads us to Piñeiro, where we can either go down to Aquillon or continue towards Bres. Following the wide track through a beautiful pine forest, we descend in search of the village of Gaiñeiros. At the entrance to the village we take an asphalted track that descends towards Bres. On arriving at the fertile plain, at a sharp bend there is a path on the right that runs alongside the river, taking us to the Mazo de Bres.
leading us next to the Mazo de Bres. Continue across the road, along a path that runs alongside the river and leads us to Aguillon, the junction point with the other alternative. From here we only have to continue along the road to Vega de Llan to turn off and go down in search of the river.

Shortly after, we arrive at Taranundi, the final point of this route. There is the possibility of doing the long route, which goes back to Taramundi and continues to the recreational area of Aguillón.
