Camino de la Costa - Stage 12: A Caridá - A Veiga

Stage 12 of the Coastal Pilgrimage Route to Santiago de Compostela, which starts in Irún.

The departure point is the same for both variants. From Avenida de Asturias, cross the N-634 via a level crossing and continue through San Pelayo and Valdepares. Further on, the path continues towards El Viso and Porcía, where it crosses the river of the same name.

At the end of the bridge, there is a milestone marking the key fork in the road:
Pilgrims who choose the historic route to Vegadeo will turn left towards Tol.

In Tol, a double scallop shell marker indicates the turn towards Castropol. After passing through Campo de Péligos, walkers can take a detour to visit the town of Castropol (just a 3.5 km detour) or continue directly towards Vegadeo.

The route continues through Las Campas and along a series of rural paths to Lantoira, crossing a traditional agricultural landscape dotted with cabazos, buildings similar to hórreos (raised granaries) that are very characteristic of the area.

The route continues towards Vilavedelle, where the Consolación chapel is located. Here, you need to pay attention, as the Camino turns sharply to the left.

From this point, it is about 4 kilometres to Vegadeo, passing through Presa, a place from which you can enjoy excellent views over the Eo marshes.

Vegadeo is an ideal end to the stage for pilgrims: a town with a wide range of shops, accommodation, restaurants and all the services you need to rest and recharge your batteries.

In addition, the town and its parishes boast a remarkable civil and religious architectural heritage, including palatial complexes, noble houses and an interesting historical legacy linked to trade and the Camino.
