Castro As Croas de Eilale
As Croas de Eilale is a fortified settlement located in the council of Santiso d'Abres (Asturias), on the top of Mount da Vaca, at an altitude of 173 metres. It is a fortified settlement dating from the pre-Roman period, with an oval floor plan measuring 130 m x 85 m. It has an outstanding defensive system. Its defensive system is very important, with three moats, counter moats and the remains of walls. It provides a visual view of the Eo valley, which gave it strategic value. It is thought to have been linked to iron mining in the area, especially the La Rebolada mine. It is an example of a mountain fort with an economic and defensive function. It is currently partially covered by vegetation. Although in a state of ruin, it is of great archaeological and heritage interest. It is one of the best-defended hill forts in western Asturias.
