Church of San Esteban de Piantón

Church of San Esteban de Piantón

Temple of the 16th-17th c. built in the village square

Piantón offers an excellent example of religious heritage with a 16th-17th century church where the bell tower gives the building an aerial appearance. In its altarpieces there are several examples of Baroque imagery, which is in keeping with local taste and tradition, together with 19th century pieces made by the local "santeiros". This church is linked to the Order of Malta. The sacristy is notable for two heraldic coats of arms and the tombstone that describes the history of the monastery of San Esteban and its connection with families from Mexico in the 16th and 17th centuries, and their devotion to the Virgin of Guadalupe.
