El Llano, San Tirso de Abres
El Llano, in San Tirso de Abres, is a charming village that reflects the rural essence of the region. The imposing church of San Salvador, patron saint of the council, dating from the 16th century, stands out, with its wide portico and two entrance doors between which is the coat of arms of the Counts of Altamira, dated 1480. The Ermita de San Juan hermitage and the square of the same name also stand out, spaces that keep alive the tradition and social life of the village.
The friendliness of its people and the survival of ancestral customs, such as the wheat netting or the carvings that adorn the church, add a special charm. The influence of the fishing tradition, especially salmon fishing in the river Eo, has shaped local life for centuries, consolidating a close link between its inhabitants and the natural environment.
El Llano is part of the Eo Railway Greenway, which follows the route of the old narrow-gauge mining railway that linked the Villaodrid station (near A Pontenova, Lugo) with Ribadeo. Operational until 1964, this railway facilitated the transport and export of iron ore and coal, boosting the local economy and leaving a valuable industrial legacy visible in stations, tunnels and masonry constructions known as "casetos". Today, this road has become an attractive route for hiking and cycling, allowing you to explore and enjoy this historical and natural heritage.
The Piñeiro recreational area, next to the river Eo, offers natural spaces for relaxation and outdoor fun, while the active tourism offer in the area includes activities such as bicycle hire, canoe trips on the river and areas set aside for bathing, which allow you to fully enjoy this unique natural environment.
