Paseo costero Castropol - Figueras

Paseo costero Castropol - Figueras

Coastal route between Castropol and Figueras, with views of the Eo estuary, windmills, beaches and seafaring heritage.

The path begins at the entrance to the village, where there is an area set aside for leaving the car. A few metres away, an information panel provides an overview of the route, which runs between the town of Castropol and Figueras, always bordering the Eo estuary.

The route, which is well signposted and of low difficulty, runs along paths and nature trails, with sections of the route equipped with stairs and wooden walkways integrated into the surroundings. It passes through a variety of vegetation including pines, eucalyptus, acacias and hawthorns, framing the waters of the estuary at all times.

From Salías you can enjoy one of the most impressive views of the route: the inlet of La Linera, Castropol on one side, Figueras on the other, and in the background Ribadeo with the Bridge of Los Santos. The islet of Turullón can also be seen and, at low tide, the oyster and shellfish farms. The contrast between the blue of the estuary and the green of the meadows creates a unique picture.

The route continues to the Esquilo viaduct, where there is still a ship's carpentry workshop, the last living testimony of a tradition linked to the construction of fishing boats. Further on you reach the remains of the old tidal mill of As Acías, next to which there are two small coves ideal for bathing. It also passes close to the beaches of Arnela and the emblematic Torres de Donlebún, as well as the cove of Lieira, another outstanding panoramic point.

The route ends in Figueras, a charming seaside town that is well worth a visit. The return journey can be made by the same route or, in summer, you can take advantage of the boat service to sail back along the estuary.
