Ruta del Ouroso PR-102
In the Teixo and just behind the hostel starts the forest track along which the walk to the Alto de Ouroso begins. The path is wide and suitable for all-terrain vehicles, so there is hardly any possibility of getting lost. The route runs comfortably through wide pastures, heaths and pine groves to reach a landing on which there is a small lagoon where, at mid-morning, many horses come to this point to water and refresh themselves in the shade of the pines. The animals graze in a semi-wild state and require little attention from their owners, which is why the number of horses has increased considerably in recent years.
The itinerary now continues on a less steep slope, sheltered by small copses of Scots pine, a species that best withstands winter frosts, which is why it has been abundantly planted on the heights of the Sierra de Ouroso. It is also the slowest growing and smallest in size, but its tortuous shape combined with heather gives rise to a forest of great beauty that in the morning mist offers a magical aspect of an enchanted forest. We continue our ascent, enjoying excellent views of the peaks of Ancares in León, the neighbouring province of Lugo, the Oscos region and a large part of the Lugo sea. Once at the 1031 m high Ouroso we retrace our steps back to the starting point.
