Route to Pena del Encanto PR-AS 253

A walk through forests and legends to the magical Pena do Encanto waterfall.

The route starts at the exit of the village of San Tirso de Abres, in the direction of Galicia. On the right hand side, the walker finds the square of San Isidro, where the chapel of the same name is located, marking the beginning of the route.

The route continues along the asphalted road to the village of Vilela de Abajo. In this section there is a wide view of the municipal capital, located in the area known as El Llano, in a valley surrounded by gentle mountains and crossed from southwest to northwest by the river Eo, the natural axis around which the history and life of the council has developed.

In Vilela, the route turns off to the left onto a dirt track that enters a leafy native forest, following the course of the Ramalledo stream. This stream waters rich riverside vegetation and leads us to the area known as Pena do Encanto, where a mysterious waterfall shrouded in legend emerges. According to tradition, on the night of Midsummer's Eve an enchanted lady appears from the rock, combing her hair with a golden comb to bewitch whoever observes her.

From this point, the return journey follows the same path until a crossroads, where you take the turning to the right to climb gently up to Vilela de Arriba. After crossing this small village, the path continues until it returns to the starting point in San Tirso.
