Medal Park in Vegadeo
In the heart of the town, between the Parish Church and the Town Hall Square, is the Medal Park. A beautiful and well-kept park that invites you to take a stroll and where, in the past, boats used to sail up the estuary and the riverbed of the Suarón.
In the park we can find several important symbols for Vegadeo. Of course, the Quiosco de la Música, from 1903, the Venus Algálica del Eo, a work made in homage to the writer Álvaro Fernández Suárez and one of the three works of the illustrious Vegadeo sculptor César Montaña that can be seen in Vegadeo, together with Leyendo en Penarronda (C/Sur) and El Herrero ( entrance to IES Elisa y Luis Villamil).
In the park itself we also find a recent and singular work in the shape of a cow. The well-known and photographed cow Silvallana, designed by the local artist Lulas Somoza and painted with the collaboration of the users of the Day Centre, on the occasion of the 2018 Trade Fair, recalling the livestock tradition of the area and also the origins of the livestock fair, known as Silvallana, which has been held since ancient times and which since 1964 was almost indissolubly linked to the Trade Fair in its first edition. Nowadays we can also see her accompanied by her calf.
