Hotel Casa Soto

Hotel Casa Soto

Building with a long history located in the small town of Vegadeo.

The building that houses the Hotel Casa Soto is built according to the models of the typical architecture of western Asturias: stone masonry walls and slate slabs for the roof, painted façade, and interiors made of exposed stone and chestnut wood beams and ceilings. Built around the 19th century, it maintains the original structure and gives it a traditional and rustic feel, conserving the canons of popular construction in the region.

Casa Soto is also part of history, a history forged in Vegadeo. The Cotarelo family lived here, illustrious figures of the region, intellectuals of Spanish literature. Emilio Cotarelo y Mori was a man of letters, recognised nationally as one of the most important thinkers of the 19th century and father of Armando Cotarelo, writer and philosopher, elected in 1913 as a member of the Academy of History and the Academy of Language and in 1919 as a member of the Galician Academy. In 1941, one of the "da Veiga" doctors, Antonio Guzmán, set up his practice on the ground floor of the building. For fifty years, Dr. Guzmán's surgery was located at number 16, Armando Cotarelo Street in Vegadeo, which was also the family home during this time. Over the years, this building continues to be the scene of stories, the stories of anyone who decides to stop in this Vega del Eo and wants to enjoy the tradition of the Asturian-Galician lands.
